Pumpkin Math

This week we have been working on an activity called Pumpkin Math. I brought in 3 different sized pumpkins for the children to make some estimates about. We estimated and then measured the actual measurements for height, weight, and circumference for each pumpkin. We also counted how many sections were on each pumpkin and the students estimated how many seeds were in each one. We had some wonderful parent volunteers who took the pumpkins home last night and removed the seeds and cleaned them for us. Today, the students counted the actual number of seeds in each pumpkin, by filling cups full of ten and counting hundreds, tens and ones. They were quite surprised when our middle sized white pumpkin had almost twice as many seeds as the other two. Hope you enjoy the pictures of the students hard at work!

Hugs Not Drugs!

Today students were feeling comfy in their PJ's! We were able to watch Ronald McDonald in a live show reminding us to Just say NO! We couldn't help but get a little silly picture in as well!

Measuring Length

Today we began learning about measurement. We explored a few different units and measured some of our class objects with them. The students found that the smaller the unit, the more they needed to measure their object. We will continue our study this week using inches, feet, centimeters, and meters.
